HOW TO COLOR BLOCK
Color blocking is the combination of different colors to achieve a vibrant and bold finished look. If you find that your wardrobe is somewhat boring, color blocking is a great way to add some spice and energy to your closet and switch up your go-to styles.
Below are some ways you can color block to create an aesthetically pleasing ensemble;
1. Combining colors in the same family
One of the easiest ways to color block is combining colors in the same family on the color spectrum. Colors are located on the spectrum based on an organic transition from one to another. If you have always dressed in neutrals and want to add more color to your looks, this will be a good place to start. Examples are; pink and red, orange and red, blue and green, purple and green.
2. Combining different tones/shades of the same color
Another easy way to color block is opting for a monochromatic look by layering different shades of one color. This option can be made even more interesting by mixing up the fabrics and textures as well. Examples are; lime green and emerald green, lilac and purple, blush pink and fuschia pink.
3. Pairing neutral colors with bold shades
If wearing bright colors isn't exactly your style, try picking a neutral shade and pairing it with a bold one. Neutral colors include black, white, beige, ivory, brown, and gray.
Some colors that pair nicely with neutrals are red, pink, green, orange, blue. For example, you can pair an orange top with brown pants or a skirt. This will make the orange color stand out without being too loud or overwhelming.
4. Matching contrasting tones
This method involves pairing colors on opposite sides of the spectrum to create a bold, daring and fun ensemble. Examples are blue and orange, red and green, pink and green
Additional Tips:
- Try playing within a range of three colors or less
- Pink can easily replace red in all possible combinations usually applied to red
- Pay attention to your skin and hair color when color blocking
- If you want to brighten up your look but are skeptical about mixing colors, try ready-to-wear color-blocked pieces like a dress that has two or three colors
-Accessories such as wristwatches, handbags, shoes, belts and the likes can also be used to achieve the color block effect so you aren’t restricted to using clothes alone.
So Style Tribe, we hope these few tips will aid you in introducing some color into your wardrobe.
